My unique and versatile Personal Training Sessions will deliver the results you are looking for, whether it is to become stronger, faster, leaner or fitter.

Throughout my development as a trainer I continue to research and implement the most effective training methods, constantly improving my skills and abilities to benefit, teach and motivate. Whilst every client is unique, a common theme always presents itself in my training programmes; an unparalleled intensity and precise attention to detail.

With inspiration drawn from an extensive and diverse background, from my years as a national standard swimmer through to competing in Kettlebell Sport and cycling, I would never describe myself as an expert, but I have acquired knowledge and skills through study and practice over many, many years in the health and fitness industry. The skills and knowledge I have, in my opinion, will be helpful in helping you achieve your goals.

The fields in which you may say I specialise in are Gymnastic Strength training, Kettlebell training, including the sport of Kettlebell lifting, alongside an evidence based Nutrition Service which all help me deliver the results that my clients are looking for.

I may use various evaluation methods. This may include and not be limited to diet and nutrient analysis, movement assessments, or questionnaires. These are all used to help me develop the appropriate support that you require to action and monitor your progress towards achieving your goals.

My aim all the way through our working relationship is to provide you with the information and tools to enhance your knowledge of nutrition, physical activity, and how your overall lifestyle all plays a role in helping you to achieve your set out goals.

Ultimately, our relationship is about you. You should understand that any results you expect to achieve will only happen if you take full responsibility for the actions you take. Results are achieved through a combination of training, nutrition and genetics.

My Gymnastic Strength Training is a progressive and meticulous approach to training with your own bodyweight. I have based this approach to training around a hybrid of ‘Gymnastic Bodies’ and ‘Gold Medal Bodies’ programming and skill based learning.

Many people view gymnasts as superheroes, the incredible feats of strength and flexibility that many deem impossible to reach. But it is possible that all of us can reach a high level of skill if we show dedication and consistency in our training. Gymnastic bodies are built over time, over years and months of meticulous training. It’s not just down to genetics. Gymnastic Bodies is a structured, progressive approach to fitness and training, suitable for everyone. The programming that created hundreds of National, State and Regional champions in the USA has been adapted and scaled in a way that bridges the poor flexibility and strength of most adults with the possibilities opened up by high level gymnastics. 

 

how will it help me…

Depending on my clients individual goals would depend on where the initial focus is placed. Regardless of this, I have always found that the vast majority of people lack the necessary mobility requirements that go hand in hand with many gymnastic movement patterns. Which is why I always strive to develop mobility as well as strength within my training sessions. The benefits of utilising your own bodyweight within the realms of gymnastic strength are vast.

Training your core in unique ways will improve posture, function, performance and overall athleticism. Gymnastic strength training works the entire body as one unit maximising muscle contraction, and uniquely trains the connective tissues and joints to prevent injury.

All that you require to improve your strength using your own bodyweight is desire, dedication and an ability to be consistent with your training.

Whether you're a beginner or an elite athlete you can become leaner, stronger, fitter and healthier by supplementing your training with kettlebells. 

My Kettlebell focused training sessions are based on a structured approach. I will teach you everything from the very basics to the more complicated ‘Sport’ movements and everything in between.

The general consensus is that the kettlebell is the single most effective training tool, due to its ability to simultaneously develop strength, flexibility, stability, endurance and cardiovascular capacity. Although kettlebells develop strength, a kettlebell-trained body is far from bulky.

By encouraging the body to work as one integrated unit, kettlebell training differs from traditional weight training routines due to the fact it incorporates a series of dynamic, whole body, multi-directional moves which combine to provide the ultimate fat-blasting, functional workout in less time than that of conventional methods with dumbells, barbells and resistance machines.

My Kettlebell Training sessions constantly change to prevent habituation. I target muscles from different angles, with different movements. So whether you’re a beginner or an elite athlete you can become leaner, stronger, fitter and healthier by supplementing your training with kettlebells.

Steve’s training sessions are a great way to keep your fitness programme challenging, varied and interesting. He works with you to set goals and objectives and devises a programme to help you stay focused and motivated to meet those objectives. His kettlebell workouts really do deliver results - my legs, arms and core are all much stronger and more toned since I started training with Steve. If you are tired of team sports, or are you looking for a sport that will give you a superhuman work capacity and the build of an elite, functional athlete, then look no further. Kettlebell Sport may be for you.

It is one of the newest sports in the UK. Originating in Cold War-era Russia in 1986, the rules are simple; you have 10 minutes to perform as many reps as possible without putting the kettlebells down. It is one of the toughest competitive events on the planet. It’s also one of the most beneficial endeavors we can undertake as we try to improve our physical and mental wellbeing. Yeah, it’s hard!

 

what’s it all about?…

Unlike the Russian Hardstyle, which is more strength-oriented, to be successful at Kettlebell Sport requires strength, endurance and mental toughness. Being a sport, means there are also rankings up for grabs based on your weight, the size of the kettlebell(s) used and the amount of reps completed in one of two events; Biathlon and Long Cycle.

To put as simply as possible Biathlon is made up of two lifts, the jerk and the snatch. Athletes are required to perform their jerk set first followed by their snatch set. With a minimum rest period of 30 minutes between both lifts. Both sets are performed for a maximum of 10 minutes, with the total of both lifts added together to make up your overall score. This is slightly different to the Long Cycle event. For Long Cycle the athlete must clean and then jerk the kettlebell as many times as possible in 10 minute. All of these lifts are performed without putting the kettlebell(s) down. That’s 10 minutes of consistent lifting.

For the majority of people it is their nutrition which stops them reaching their health, performance or body-composition goals. Unfortunately if you add in the fact that there is a lot of misinformation out in the public domain with regards to nutrition, it makes it difficult for the general public to make educated decisions on how to eat to reach their goals, and importantly how to put together a sustainable plan of action to make it as easy as possible to adhere to.

 

HOW WILL IT HELP ME…

Each of my nutrition packages come with at least one 60-90 min consultation. This is where we can discuss your goals and the support you require from me as Certified MNU Nutritionist.

My aim with all my clients is to make their diet as pleasurable as possible. The easier and more enjoyable a diet is to follow, the more likely it is that you will adhere to the plan. Maybe it’s a simple case of portion control, or maybe your diet needs a complete overhaul. Either way the end goal is always to help you with your adherence, this will leave you in a much better position to reach your desired goals. I even allow for those little treats that we all crave and love. After all food is to be enjoyed.

We may have a hard time fighting our non-conscious urges to eat tasty, calorie rich foods when they’re right in front of us, but with a little bit of advanced planning, we can prevail without having to exert too much of our limited will power. The key is to control food cues in your personal environment. Ultimately, a little bit of planning can go along way.
